The whole idea that a character has to “deserve” a redemption arc is so bananas to me…like a redemption arc is a type of plot line, it’s not like, a gift bestowed upon characters the author likes as a token of love, it’s a specific plot line that only works with a specific kind of character…one that has done things for which they need to atone…
Just…wild.
I think most people say ‘deserved’ as in ‘this was poorly written and the author did nothing to establish this plotline’. As in ‘yes this character needs to atone but the author forgot all the groundwork needed to make it work, instead just went TADA! They are redeemed because I said so’
